There’s nothing worse that suffering from a toothache! And if you’re a child, this incessant pain makes it hard to focus on anything else.  If your child is suffering from a toothache, it is essential that you are as gentle and nurturing as possible. It’s hard to see your child in any type of pain, but fortunately there’s ways to relieve it!

Determine the cause:
There are many reasons your child may experience a toothache. Some of them include emerging teeth, chipped teeth/cracked enamel, loose and/or missing fillings, tooth erosion and/or decay or food inadvertently stuck in between their teeth. One of the most common reasons for a child’s toothache is diet-related, such as drinking too much soda, or eating foods that possess high sugar content, such as candy. Try to locate the source of where the pain is coming for by looking for swelling and redness on the gums and cheek or any discolorations or cracks in their teeth.

Soothe it with a home remedy:
If you suspect food particles are trapped between their teeth, help your child floss the area causing them pain. Swishing around plain warm water (never hot or cold) with a teaspoon of table salt can also help relieve the tenderness. A cold pack against the cheek coupled with over the counter pain relievers may also reduce pain.

Come see us:
If none of the home remedies seemed to do the trick, you should bring your child to their pediatric dentist! Proper pediatric dental care is vital and shouldn’t be delayed! Schedule an appointment with us to determine if the gum or tooth is damaged. The earlier you seek treatment, the easier it is to deal with dental concerns.
