Tooth enamel is the first line of defense your teeth have against plaque and cavities. It’s the hardest part of the human body, but can also take a lot of abuse from things like sugar and bacteria. It’s important to keep your child’s teeth enamel strong to protect them from cavities and tooth sensitivity. Here are some tips to keeping those pearly whites, tough and mighty:
Avoid Sugary Foods and Drinks
Sugar feeds the bacteria on your children’s teeth, which lead to cavities. Limiting the number of sugary snacks and drinks they consume every day will keep their enamel strong and their teeth healthy.
Brush and Floss Regularly
It’s important to remove all debris left on your child’s teeth to prevent the growth of bacteria. We can’t stress enough the importance of brushing your child’s teeth twice a day, for two minutes each time.If your child is not able to floss by themselves, it’s important to help them to ensure they are getting all debris out.
Add Calcium Rich Food
Calcium is a dental super mineral, since It neutralizes damaging acids and is a great enamel protector. Add a calcium rich food to your child’s daily meal, like yogurt or cheese, to keep their teeth strong.
Food and drinks high in citric acid erode tooth enamel in a process called demineralization. To avoid demineralization taking place, which in turn will lead to tooth sensitivity for your child, make sure they avoid foods high in citric acid. If they do consume citrus, make sure they rinse with water afterwards.
