What’s that smell? Is it coming from your child’s mouth? They’re not alone. Halitosis, better known as bad breath, can affect people of all ages.

So what’s a kid to do? Keep these four things in mind to help your child avoid this problem and keep their mouth healthy.

1. Brush Regularly!
Everyone should brush and floss their teeth twice daily to keep their teeth clean. What most people forget is that your gums need cleaning too. Make sure your child is cleaning right beneath the gum line where bacteria can build up and cause bad breath, among other problems.

2. Tongue Scrape!
Tongue scrapers may seem like an unnecessary step to take but it is essential in keeping mouths clean. Less food particles on the tongue means less of a chance for bacteria growth.

3. Avoid Smelly/Sugary Foods!
Soda, candy, desserts - don’t let your child near them! The bacteria from the sugar gives their breath that foul smell. Try replacing these foods with a sugar-free option.

4. Schedule Regular Cleanings!
Stay on top of your child’s oral hygiene by attending regular cleanings at your pediatric dentist! Dental professionals can help clean all the hard to reach areas and answer any oral hygiene questions that may arise!
