Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching. While it’s the unofficial end to the summer, there’s still time left to have fun with your kids around Long Island. If you're looking to take a break from the beach or barbecues this weekend, round up the family and head to one of these events this weekend:

Shinnecock Powwow at the Shinnecock Powwow Grounds (Westgate Road, Southampton). Kids and adults alike will enjoy storytelling, crafts, native foods, tribal dances and more on Friday from 3 to 10 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Price: $15, $10 ages 6-12, free ages 5 and younger.
Messy Afternoons at the Long Island Children's Museum (11 Davis Ave., Garden City). Enjoy a variety of sensory artistic activities that will get messy, for children ages 18 months to 4 years on Saturday and Sunday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Price: Free with museum admission ($12).
If I Were a Whaler at The Whaling Museum and Education Center (301 Main St., Cold Spring Harbor). Learn about a whaler's role at sea through interactive, hands-on stations, which include a collection of nautical tools and artifacts on Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Price: $6 adults, $5 children.
The Hampton Classic Horse Show (240 Snake Hollow Rd., Bridgehampton). Daily through Sunday, families can check out a 65 acre showground, more than 1,600 horses and more. Gates open at 8 a.m. Price: $10, $20 carload, free ages 6 and younger.
100 Nature Things Tour at William Floyd Estate (245 Park Dr., Mastic Beach). In honor of the 100 years of the National Park Service, on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., families can search for 100 natural things from the roadsides only at the William Floyd Estate. All nature things will be included such as wildflowers, birds, insects, ferns, shurbs, trees, butterflies and more. See them all and earn the centennial pencil. Price: Free.
Amateur Annual Labor Day Sand Creation Contest at the Fire Island National Seashore Headquarters (120 Laurel St., Patchogue). All ages and families are welcome to enter the end of the summer sand sculpting contest on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year's theme is national parks. Price: Free, cost of ferry.
