Drooling, crankiness and crying can make teething an ordeal for both babies and parents alike. There’s nothing worse as a parent, than seeing your little ones uncomfortable. Help ease their sore gum pain with these soothing tips:
Rub their gums: Teething babies love to feel pressure on their gums because it helps distract from the teething pain. Use a clean finger or moistened gauze pad to gently rub your baby's gums and ease their discomfort.
Keep it cool: Cold compresses and food can work wonders in soothing baby’s gums. A cold washcloth, spoon or chilled teething ring are great--but make sure not to store the teething ring in the freezer as it can actually do damage to their little gums.
Certain foods: Depending on what stage of the teething process your child is in, they may be able to have certain solid foods. Giving your baby a frozen banana, cold carrots or a cold apple are great to gnaw on with some cooling comfort.
Try an over-the-counter remedy. If your baby is especially cranky, acetaminophen or ibuprofen might help bring some relief. Avoid teething medications that contain the pain reliever benzocaine though, as they are thought to be harmful in children.
