Summer is on its way out which means it’s almost time to gather the kiddies and send them off to school. Make sure to send them off with a packed lunch so you know what they are eating each day. And on top of packing their lunch, make sure to pack something healthful to keep them looking and feeling good. Check out these healthy lunch choices for your child.

Quick ‘n’ Easy - To cut down on the time it takes to prepare your child’s lunch, you can opt for pre-packaged snacks. Trail mix, yogurt, dried fruit packs, whole grain snack bars, and string cheese sticks are all healthy and easy snacks to pack for you child’s lunch. Be sure to check the fat and sugar content for whichever snacks you do decide on.

Health-ay PB&J - Forget the white bread, fatty peanut butter, and sugary jelly. There’s much healthier alternatives to this classic sandwich. Grab some whole-grain bread and spread some almond butter on it. Add in some whole fruit preserves for a low-sugar jelly substitute.

Protein Packed - Looking to add some more protein in your child’s diet? Tuna is very lean source of protein. Instead of adding fatty mayonnaise, mix the tuna with some plain yogurt and spread it on some whole-wheat bread. For a side snack with the sandwich, add an already peeled hard-boiled egg.

Something Sweet - An apple a day keeps the doctor away! Mix it up and switch the apple out for some blueberries, strawberries, mandarin oranges, or pineapple chunks. You can’t forget about a child’s best friend now! Add in a piece of chocolate for a treat. But not just regular chocolate! Dark chocolate, for a brain-booster that’s rich in antioxidants.

Colorful Veggies - It’s never easy to get your child to eat vegetables. Include some unordinary and fun colored vegetables like orange or yellow pepper slices, edamame, and sugar snap peas. These vegetables certainly look more appetizing than a stick of celery or a bag of carrots.

Not only are all of these lunch options healthy for kids, but they’re a lot easier on their teeth than most sugary and fatty foods. Send your kid back to school with a lunch that keeps them and their teeth healthy!
