Flossing can make a big difference in preventing cavities between your toddler’s teeth. It’s a good idea for parents to introduce flossing to a child’s oral health routine as soon as one tooth makes contact with another. This usually happens around age 2.

Encourage your preschooler to floss every night at bedtime. It’s important to remove the plaque from your child’s teeth because this could eventually cause gum disease and cavities!

When flossing your toddler’s teeth they may feel discomfort. Remind them that daily brushing and flossing will relieve the discomfort. If they continue to feel pain after a week or two, please contact Pediatric Dentistry of Suffolk County.

Here are some tips on how to properly floss your teeth:

Is your child is nervous about flossing? Help alleviate their fears by showing them a book with pictures of healthy teeth. Explain how flossing can help your teeth stay sparkly clean! For more information on our practice, give us a call today at our Medford location at (631) 320-0880 or at our Commack location at (631) 486-6364.
