Seeing your teething baby in pain can be heartbreaking for
parents. After all, it’s only instinct to want to protect your child and ease
his or her discomfort. Luckily, there are many safe and effective ways to treat
the soreness that babies feel when their primary teeth break through their
gums. Let’s take a look at a few of your options:
Gum Massage
According to WebMD,
a simple gum massage is all it takes to make many babies feel better. Using a
clean finger, rub your baby’s gum for approximately two minutes at a time. If
you’re not comfortable putting a finger in your baby’s mouth, use a teething
ring instead.
Cold Food
Chilled foods like applesauce and yogurt may soothe gum pain
while also filling your baby up. If your child hasn’t started solids yet,
gnawing on a cold spoon or chilled washcloth may do the trick.
Teething Toys
While it’s generally not recommended to give young infants
acetaminophen or ibuprofen, your pediatrician can tell you whether or not it’s safe
for your teething baby. Even small dosages can help your child get through the
night without waking up in pain.
