From the ages of 6 to 13, your child will lose his or her baby teeth. During this time, it's important to keep your child’s teeth healthy. The first of the teeth to go are usually the two front teeth, followed by the surrounding teeth then the molars.

If your child wants you to pull out a loose tooth, pull up on the tooth and give it a quick twist. It is best to hold the tooth with gauze. Sometimes accidents happen and a child can lose a baby tooth prematurely. This can damage the permanent tooth and cause it to grow in crooked. (HealthyChildren.org)

Brushing and flossing properly is a significant part to keep up with your child’s oral hygiene as well. It's important that you help your child brush his or her teeth for a good cleaning. Tartar-control and fluoride toothpastes can prevent plaque build up as well as provide the necessary vitamins to strengthen enamel. Fluoride is an essential part of your child’s oral hygiene. Your child should visit the dentist every six months. Seeing the dentist will prevent any unnecessary tooth issues. Contact us at either one of our locations if your child is experiencing pain in his or her mouth.

Lastly, cavities can be prevented through a number of ways. Flossing is a simple way to preventing cavities, but dentists can also apply a sealant to the child’s molars. Molars have grooves in them, which is susceptible to storing unwanted food. Sealant and fluoride treatment can prevent any cavities and pain your child might face. Another way to prevent cavities is a healthy diet. Sugary sweets and food loaded with carbohydrates can stick to teeth and lead to cavities and/or tooth pain. (HealthyChildren.org)
