New Year’s Resolutions are not just for adults. You child
can take on a life changing resolution. Even better, you can do it together! PsychCentral has the greatest resolution
of all: Generosity!
This resolution can stick with your child as he grows. The
resolution of generosity can relieve stress and boost self-esteem. PsychCentral has some tips to help you
and your child be more generous in 2014.
Remember that you don’t know everyone’s story so treat
others nicely. Maybe someone is having a bad day so give them some slack. Don’t
fall under the temptation of being angry back with someone. Instead teach your
child compassion and patience.
Don’t be hard on yourself and teach that to your child.
Pessimism does not help so when your child is discouraged after a bad grade
talk about what positives came out of it. Mistakes are meant to be made and
once your child acknowledges the mistake he can move on.
Random acts of kindness not only boost your mood but other
people around you. Teach your child to be friendly and polite. Holding a door
open for someone can quickly put a smile on their face. Or smiling at someone
you come in contact with can lighten any mood. Thank the people around you and
everyone will be a little more happy.
Community service is a great way to being kind in 2014.
Volunteering can add fulfillment to your child’s life he never even realized he
was missing. This is where your child’s self-esteem will soar. Volunteering
together not only gives you and your child a bond but you are providing people
with the help they need. Look around in your town for community service
options. Volunteering once a month can mold your child into a well-rounded
individual.
