Trick or treating, candy and costumes may be the first thing
to come to your mind when you think of Halloween. However, Halloween has quite
a few dangers associated with the holiday. We’re here to help ensure your
children have a safe and happy Halloween.
Below are a few safety tips to make sure this Halloween is
nothing but a fun-filled time for ghosts and goblins of all ages. If you have
any additional Halloween safety tips, please share them with us on our Facebook page.
Flame-Retardant Costumes
When dressing your children up in their costumes this
afternoon, be sure the packing is reads “flame-retardant”. This will ensure the material that the costume
is made with wont burn. If you’re making DIY costumes this year, try and stick
with nylon or polyester material.
Wigs, Beads and Accessories.
Be sure your child’s costume accessories aren't covering
their eyes, noses or mouths. Masks also have a few dangers associated with
them, including difficulty breathing and seeing.
Personal Information Tag
Attach a name tag to your children’s costume that includes
your name, their name, your address and telephone number on it in case your
child gets separated from your group.
Costume Color
Try and stick with lighter colored costumes as they are
easily seen in the dark. Also, add reflective tape or glow-in-the-dark tape to
the front and back of darker costumes along with trick or treat bags.
